During a press briefing, President Donald Trump ridiculed the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, prompting snarky criticism from conservatives.
On March 16, Fox News interrupted its daily programming and livestreamed President Trump as he held a press briefing at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The Washington arts middle, which has been hit by a string of canceled exhibits and artist boycotts due to the venue renaming itself the Trump-Kennedy Center in December 2025. On March 14, Trump, 29, announced that Richard Grenell will no longer serve as president of the well-known venue.
Trump regarded at his papers, spoke into the mic, and talked about that the venue is dropping money.
The president said, “The budget deficient of about 26 million dollars minimum. Owed a lot of money. Borrowing money. So much so that a lot of people don’t understand.
“It’s no marvel the management right here of exceptionally proficient and wealthy board,” he mocked. “It’s a very wealthy board. Not all people. Most of you’re loaded.

“Ike Perlmutter has so much money. Look at Ike Perlmutter. He ended up being the largest owner of Disney. He started with $100 dollars or a little less. He didn’t speak English, and he became the largest owner of Disney,” he called out the previous chairperson of Marvel Entertainment.
“But then they went woke, and you sold your stock. He didn’t like Mickey Mouse being woke. But he’s one of the most brilliant business people. Ike is great!” he added. “You’re on the board, right?”
Viewers took to social media and slammed Trump’s feedback while defending the national cultural middle.
One viewer said, “That’s all that matters to this pathetic mother—-er. MONEY! I remember a few weeks into his first term, he spoke in front of a banner which proudly proclaimed, ‘America is open for business,’ and I immediately worried that he would decimate this country just like his businesses.”
Another viewer added, “It’s one big club and you ain’t in it, MAGA,” while a third wrote, “That’s what it’s all about to Trump. His small mind equates wealth with importance and validity.”
Despite his critics, the president had a supporter who agreed with his statements and said, “The ‘Trump-Kennedy Center’ renovation is the ultimate D.C. power play. Shutting down the nation’s premier stage for two years while renaming it is either a bold restoration or a complete culture war takeover, depending on who you ask.”

As the event continued, Trump announced that the institute would also shut down for two years, due to construction.
“Today we determined, it’s a little late for the board because we already announced it, these are minor details. But I think everyone agrees. But subject to board approval to determine that the fastest way to bring the Trump-Kennedy Center to the highest level of success, beauty, and grandeur is to cease the entertainment operations for a two-year period of time as we complete a really high-quality construction, ” he completed. “Everything is the highest level.”
