Fox News fans turn on The Office star for saying | TV Shows

Rainn Wilson confronted harsh criticism after suggesting that The Office couldn’t be produced today.

The NBC hit comedy ran for roughly 9 seasons, from 2005 to 2013. On June 14, Fox News aired a clip from Wilson’s interview in which he mentioned the show’s politically incorrect humor, inappropriate conduct, and cringe-inducing moments centered around Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and his embarrassing antics.

Despite the collection making him a family identify, Wilson expressed doubt that the show could possibly be created in today’s climate due to what he perceives as media bias “toward liberal policies.” His remarks adopted as the viewers behind the American model of The Office caught up with what the forged did after the collection finale aired.

Wilson acknowledged, “I do feel like you couldn’t make The Office today. I think that would be too hard to be as politically incorrect as the show was.”

“There has been bias in the media towards more liberal policies,” he noticed, including, “They’re willing to overlook that platoner.

“It’s the hypocrisy that will get me the most. The hypocrisy! Both sides need equal requirements of conduct,” he concluded.

Viewers flocked to social media to challenge Wilson’s assertions, with many arguing the actor has misunderstood what made the sitcom successful, reports the Irish Star.

One commenter wrote, “Maybe. Or perhaps “The Office” labored because it mocked awkward and inappropriate conduct slightly than celebrated it. Great comedy often adapts to its time.”

Another individual commented, “‘The Office’ would not be made today. Maybe. But if it have been launched today for the first time, tens of millions would in all probability still binge-watch it in a weekend. Good writing ages better than people assume.”

A 3rd chimed in, “People said the same about South Park, and It’s Always Sunny, yet they’re still thriving.”

Despite facing backlash, Wilson did receive support from one commenter who stated, “I’m impressed by his honesty, contemplating his own political stance. Good on you for calling out hypocrisy, Rainn.”

Last year, The Office actor found himself at odds with MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle regarding the public’s increasing skepticism toward mainstream media.

During an episode of Wilson’s Soul Boom podcast on April 25, 2025, Ruhle contended that this distrust was “by design,” attributing it to the Trump administration’s “concerted effort to destroy the media because the media is the last line of protection holding energy accountable.

“But when I see this kind of insight and passion being directed at the current administration and the lack of this kind of insight and passion being directed at the previous administration,” Wilson countered.

Wilson’s criticism accused the media of presenting an overly constructive portrayal during Biden’s presidency, saying, “La, la, la, la, Everything’s fine. Look, the economy’s great. La, la, la. Immigration’s not that much of a problem,” and likened their dismissive strategy to “Cleopatra, Queen of Denial.”
