Fox News host takes issue with Brian Brenbergs | TV Shows
Fox News’ Dagen McDowell called out her co-host for his “meaningless” data.
During the Friday, December 5 episode of The Big Money Show, Brian Brenberg introduced up data about “record bankruptcies for small businesses.” He began, “Mom and pop bankruptcies are surging to a new record. Over 2,200 have filed under Subchapter V or 5; I don’t even know. Rules this year up 8% from 2024.”
After laying out his information, he handed them on to the 56-year-old, saying, “Okay, so Dagen, explain. This is like a relatively new way to declare bankruptcy. It came about in 2020. Is it representative of trouble amongst small businesses or not? What do you think?”
The commentator took no time to slam his claims, stating, “No, it’s not. So, I’m going to take issue with the entire framing of this entire segment.”
As she started to imitate her co-host’s dramatic introduction of “record bankruptcies” with an irate show, the other hosts started to chuckle, including Brian, who poked enjoyable at his own effort, “I woke up at 3 in the morning to write this segment. Didn’t even eat breakfast.”
“No. So it’s only been around for five years,” she started to clarify, before being corrected by Marcus Lemonis, who said, “Four actually.”
Although she corrected her error, Brian took this as a manner to get back at his co-host’s jab. He said, “I guess he knows something about it, too. You can write the segment next time.”
Dagen continued, “It is a category, by definition, that made it easier to go bankrupt. So, why wouldn’t this number go up if people took advantage of it? It enabled people to go bankrupt easier so by the very logic, it would go up because of the creation of this category.
“There’s not enough data there to say anything,” she added. “It’s like ‘Yea! Record high!’ even though this category has only been in existence for four years. It’s not bad. This is not evidence of anything.”

Brian then tried to backtrack, saying, “Alright, alright. Hold on. Hold on. Let me try to strengthen the case of this segment a little bit.
“I’ll just add this in. Chapter 13 bankruptcies, consumer bankruptcies, are up compared to recent years,” he said.
After he offered his new data, he admitted, “Well, she proved me meaningless.”
Viewers had been in hysterics over the on air incident, with one X consumer writing, “The hacky way of doing things without data.”
