Fox News viewers piled on Energy Secretary Chris Wright after cameras caught him gazing skyward with his eyes closed during a live interview, sparking a plethora of memes.
“Let’s bring in the Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright,” anchor John Roberts said Friday on America Reports.
The screen cut up to show Wright, standing close to Corpus Christi, Texas, tilting his head toward the solar, eyes shut and mouth open.
Co-host Sandra Smith smiled and glanced off-camera as a voice alerted Wright he was on-air.
He jerked to consideration and pivoted to reward President Donald Trump’s rally in town, saying there was “a lot of enthusiasm” for the go to and promising “lower costs, higher wages” under a second Trump time period.
Social media rapidly reacted to the second. The Hill reporter Emily Brooks posted the clip on X with the caption, “Is he solar powered?”
Representative Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., edited the video to show Wright sucked into a beam of mild and disappearing. “Where did he go?” the congressman requested.
“Does he think he’s being raptured?” another X person requested. A fourth requested, “What the hell was Chris Wright doing here?”
Wright, a former oil government appointed by Trump, was on this system to focus on the Republican frontrunner’s plan to increase U.S. fossil-fuel output.
Loud music from the rally bled into the interview, forcing Roberts to raise his voice.
Wright answered three questions before the section ended without any acknowledgment of the on-air gaffe.
Wright is scheduled to return to Fox on Monday for America’s Newsroom.
