Fox News viewers have hit out at Donald Trump after he declared that a city “looks better when you have a military.”
During a press convention to mark his first yr in workplace on January 20, the Republican president declared he felt “very safe” while strolling around Washington, D.C. – one thing he could not have one a yr in the past.
He said, “I don’t know, to me, a town looks better when you have military people. These are big, strong guys, bad guys. Look at them and say, ‘We’re not gonna mess with them.’
“But what they do not know is that we took over 2,000 people completely out of D.C., and these had been profession criminals.
“But I feel much better seeing those people there. I went out a couple of times and had dinner in D.C.

“I walked proper down in the center of the road in D.C., I felt very protected. A yr in the past I could not have accomplished that, it will be loopy for me to do that.”
However, after the president’s remarks were shared on social media, some people used the occasion to share their concerns over the deployment of military in US cities.
One wrote on X, “First you normalize navy in the streets then you are taking over.”
Another posted, “Just bookmark this one for whenever a mind de*d MAGA supporter tells you Trump is not a fascist…”
“Trump’s very best society is an authoritarian state,” a third added.
A critic who goes by the name Former Republican on X posted, “How a lot more do you need to hear and see before you understand this man’s end objective is to implement martial law and turn out to be a full-blown dictator?”
“If Biden did this speech phrase for phrase, every single Republican could be screaming about his mental capabilities and that it was time to invoke the twenty fifth Amendment,” someone else pointed out.
One more shared, “He would love to see all of the USA that would not agree with him under navy. He has made this clear this past yr.”
An individual quipped, “Yeah nothing screams free and open society like troopers on every avenue nook.”
Trump’s comments about the military came just days after he threatened to invoke an 1807 law and deploy troops to quell persistent protests against the federal officers sent to Minneapolis to enforce his administration’s massive immigration crackdown.
The president has repeatedly threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, a rarely used federal law, to deploy the US military or federalize the National Guard for domestic law enforcement, over the objections of state governors.
In 2020, for example, he threatened to use the act to quell protests after George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police, and in recent months he threatened to use it for immigration protests.
“If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota do not obey the law and stop the skilled agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only attempting to do their job, I’ll institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have accomplished before me, and rapidly put an end to the travesty that is going down in that once great State,” Trump said in social media post.
Presidents have invoked the law more than two dozen times, most recently in 1992 by President George H.W. Bush to end unrest in Los Angeles. In that instance, local authorities asked for the assistance.
“I’m making a direct appeal to the President: Let’s turn the temperature down. Stop this marketing campaign of retribution. This is just not who we’re,” Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, said on X.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said he would problem any such motion in court.
