GB News descends into chaos over scared Labour as | UK News
GB News descended into chaos during a debate about the local elections delay as presenter Martin Daubney clashed with visitor Matthew Stadlen about whether or not Labour try to keep away from dealing with voters in areas where Reform UK is surging. As many as 22 Labour councils are set to settle for Keir Starmer’s offer of delaying elections in their space this May, depriving hundreds of thousands of Britons their say on who governs them. Five Labour councils have already confirmed they may delay the May vote, with as many as 17 contemplating doing so. This comes in addition to two Conservative councils – East and West Sussex – are urgent forward with far more across England ignoring plans to delay a vote. By distinction just 4 Labour councils have declined the Prime Minister’s offer of a delay, specifically Portsmouth, Rushmoor, Southampton and West Lancashire.
Accusing the goverment of being “scared” Daubney said: “It seems to me the Labour Party has a problem with throwing elections. They want to postpone them, certainly in five areas where Reform, according to all the polls, look certain to win. This isn’t about reorganising, this is about running scared.”
However Stadlen vehemently disagreed with those accusations.
“Where is the conclusive evidence?” he demanded. “I want to find clear, conclusive evidence that Labour, even at a local or national level, are trying to postpone elections.
“I’m not saying this as some form of Labour Party apparatchik, I’m not that,” he insisted.
While acknowledging it would be “a implausible story” if anyone could prove it he maintained his stance in the face of insufficient evidence.
“If Labour are doing this because of their own political ambitions, that is completely outrageous, but I will not say that’s what they’re doing until that’s undoubtedly the case.”
Daubney shot back: “Let’s look at the data. The evidence is there for people to make their own thoughts up.
“There are 17 areas where Labour has not made its mind up. The Conservatives have three areas where they haven’t made their mind up and the Lib Dems have one.”
He urged this implied councils who had been prepared to face voters had been those most assured of their prospects, while indicating those searching for delays feared the end result.
“The party that is expecting to get annihilated are saying ‘it’s going to take too long’. It’s manifestly clear, they’re chickens,” Daubney declared.
