Experts have long warned that AI chatbots are inclined to “hallucinations,” or unexplained events when they start spurting nonsense and incorrect info.
When Google launched its controversial AI-generated summaries in its core search engine last yr, the characteristic made outrageous claims such as urging customers to add glue to their pizza sauce and eat rocks.
The characteristic, called “AI Overviews,” demotes conventional blue hyperlinks to trusted news shops in favor of Gemini’s mechanically generated solutions to consumer prompts.
Google claims that the characteristic drives more clicks and is common with its clients, but critics such as the News Media Alliance have pushed back, warning that it will do catastrophic harm to the news industry.
Google was beforehand pressured to pause Gemini’s image technology characteristic after it started churning out “absurdly woke” and traditionally inaccurate photos, such as black Vikings and feminine popes.
