Greenlandic officers warned island residents to prepare for 5 days in the event of military motion amid rising tensions with the U.S., which stay on the rise.
Minister for fisheries, searching, agriculture and self-sufficiency, Peter Borg, spoke at a joint press convention with Minister for social affairs, labor market, housing, infrastructure and outlying districts, Aqqaluaq B. Egede, where they mentioned the continuing battle with the Trump administration.
During his remarks, Borg offered Greenlanders with an “emergency plan” in the event of military motion, instructing residents to be ready for a potential disaster for “for five days.”
“The more people who can fend for themselves and help others, the stronger we are as a society,” he said, as he unveiled the plan.
Tips on getting ready for military motion are outlined in a brochure accessible to residents. The advice was developed by the Greenland authorities in collaboration with municipalities, the Greenland Police, companies, and others.

“The recommendation of five days is based on professional assessments of realistic crisis scenarios, their duration, and the conditions we have in the country, such as climate and infrastructure,” Borg explained.
The Cabinet members also assured that the federal government would intensify emergency providers across the island with Denmark’s cooperation.
Despite the preparedness, both Borg and Egede said there’s at present no menace of military motion on the island. But nonetheless, the Greenlandic Parliament can be prepared for any situation.

“Of course, we must work to ensure that there is no military action in this country,” Egede said. “It is important that our identity as Greenlanders is also respected by other countries. Therefore, we cannot accept that people try to pressure our identity.”
The joint press convention comes a day after the nation’s prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, said the island and its people are getting ready for “everything,” including U.S. military motion.
:It just isn’t seemingly that there will likely be a use of military power, but it has not been ruled out yet,” Nielsen said. “This chief from the other facet has made it very clear that it isn’t ruled out. And therefore we must, of course, be ready for all the pieces.”
Meanwhile, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Trump insisted he wants to “get Greenland, including proper, title, and possession,” ruling out employing force to achieve that. He also urged NATO to allow the U.S. to take the mineral-rich island from Denmark and added an extraordinary warning, saying alliance members can say yes, “and we’ll be very appreciative. Or you possibly can say, ‘No,’ we are going to keep in mind.”
“This huge unsecured island is definitely half of North America,” Trump said. “That’s our territory.”
