‘Heartbreaking’ British Western series that left fans | UK News

A British Western series is hailed as “gut-wrenchingly” tragic, and is streaming free in the UK. The English (2022) is set in the late 1800s and tells the story of aristocratic Brit, Lady Cornelia Locke (performed by Emily Blunt), as she travels to the Old West set on revenge against a man she blames for her son’s death.

Locke is helped out of a stick scenario by Sgt. Eli Whipp / Wounded Wolf (Chaske Spencer), a Native American ex-US cavalry scout decided to declare land promised him for his service. She convinces him to accompany her on half of her journey, which is fraught with risk.

It also options a quantity of other well-known faces, including Rafe Spall and Toby Jones.

The series was written and directed by Hugo Blick, and was a co-production between the BBC and Amazon Prime.

Fans praised the series, with one on IMDb saying Blick created “a trendy revisionist Western that ranks with the best of Hollywood‘s efforts”.

“The cinematography by Arnau Valls Colomer was beautiful and the classical score by Federico Jusid complemented it perfectly,” they added, while also complimenting the “great pay-off” at the end of the story.

Another said the series “completely wrecked me” describing it as “gut-wrenchingly beautiful and tragic”.

“Everything, from the script, to the gorgeous big sky backdrops, to the way the story unfolds, to the music composition and selection, to the casting, to the costuming–everything is meticulously designed and artfully pieced together,” they continued.

They went on to say that the movie captured their “attention and interest from the first episode and kept me on the edge of my seat wondering how the next chapter would unfold”.

A 3rd called it “one of the best shows I’ve ever watched”, including that the “chemistry between the two lead characters is phenomenal”.

The fan also said the soundtrack is “fantastic and the cinematography is stunning”, and that that they had beneficial the show “to every one I know”.

The series is licensed 15 and has violent scenes, so is probably not for everybody.

The English is streaming free on iPlayer, and on Amazon Prime for those with a subscription.
