Hootie and the Blowfish made an iconic return to the American Music Awards stage for the Monday, May 25 show to honor the 30-yr anniversary of their first-ever win – but some fans who had been excited to see them carry out had been left fuming over others who tuned in.
The rock band first received favourite pop/rock new artist at the AMA’s back in 1996, going on to win their second award for favourite pop/rock band group duo one yr later.
While Darius Rucker went on to a solo profession and announced an engagement to Emily Deahl in 2025, the group reunited on the show’s Las Vegas stage to have a good time their anniversary during the 2026 show’s telecast.
However, as they carried out hit tracks Hold my Hand and Only Wanna Be With You, some viewers had been left confused as they did not seem to know who they had been.
As a end result, the band’s loyal fanbase hit out on social media, complaining that the viewers wasn’t appreciating the legendary group.

one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“About 80 of that crowd have NO clue who Hootie & the blowfish are. Jfc,” another said.
“These youngins in the crowd at @AMAs dont even know who Hootie and the Blowfish are,” a third remarked.
The comments came as many also admitted they weren’t sure who the group was, or noted that other artists in the crowd likely were also unaware of the group’s legacy.
