Weather in the Northeast is also disrupting journey. A Nor’easter introduced strong winds, heavy rain and flooding across the Mid-Atlantic coast, delaying more than 1,000 flights nationwide.

Why are flights delayed today at Phoenix Sky Harbor?

Cloudy climate in metro Phoenix is delaying flights. The FAA ordered a ground delay at Sky Harbor on the morning of Oct. 13, in impact through 5:59 p.m. Monday.

Flights are delayed about 50 minutes on average, according to the FAA.

How many flights are delayed at Phoenix Sky Harbor?

As of 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 13, 322 flights had been delayed at Sky Harbor, but none had been canceled, according to flight monitoring web site FlightAware.

What is a ground delay?

The FAA can order a ground delay when flights destined for an airport experiencing opposed circumstances must delay their takeoffs, according to the FAA.

It can also order a ground stop when it isn’t protected for flights to take off or land at an airport.

Noreaster on East Coast also delaying flights

It’s not just wild climate in Phoenix disrupting flights on Oct. 13. Weather on the other facet of the nation is affecting travelers’ itineraries.

A Nor’easter storm that slammed the East Coast disrupted at least 1,000 flights nationwide. Flights to and from New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., had been among those affected.

Most major airways are offering passengers the possibility to rebook their travels without paying fare variations or change charges, or obtain refunds if they select not to journey.

American Airlines will rebook passengers at 17 affected airports for journey by Oct. 15 if they rebook their journey by Oct. 13.

Southwest Airlines will rebook passengers at 13 affected airports for journey within the next 14 days. Flights rebooked for journey exterior that window can be subject to fare variations.
