Ed went on: “It’s not good for the BBC. The Huw Edwards stuff is still very, very recent in living memory, and there’s been lots of talk about that in the last couple of weeks, and now Scott Mills – another big name.
“These aren’t just people that work in the BBC someplace; these are among their greatest names that are getting caught out and being uncovered in this means.
“It’s really serious for the BBC. It’s possible that, because of what’s happened in the past, they’re taking action more quickly and being tougher when they think there’s a problem.
“They’re maybe taking it more significantly than they’ve in the past as a satan’s advocate form of reply. But the BBC PR staff, I suspect, is having a fairly dangerous day; this is just not a good time for the BBC.”
It is believed BBC bosses are having crisis talks about Mills’ replacement, with a source telling the Mirror: “It’s like a bomb has been dropped in the center of the company… all the pieces has been thrown up into the air.” Mills, who has labored for the BBC for more than 25 years, is yet to remark on his sudden axe.
