I was on The Apprentice – I could never work with Alan | UK News
A former Apprentice star has shared what Lord Alan Sugar is actually like – as they dropped the bombshell that the boardroom bigman is “not a very nice person.”
Speaking completely to Express.co.uk via OLBG.com, former BBC Apprentice contestant Amy Anzel admitted: “So I did see Lord Sugar off-camera as well as in the boardroom when the cameras were rolling, and he was quite rude and brusque. I remember he had to wait a bit longer than anticipated before shooting. If you have a shoot off site, not in the boardroom, Lord Sugar often would wait in his luxurious Rolls Royce and then come out and take his seat.” She went on to clarify that on one of the filming days, Lord Sugar was due to make a choice for the ultimate and was requested to come out of his Rolls Royce, only to be hit with a delay due to a technical glitch. Amy continued: “I remember Lord Sugar screamed his head off because he had to wait and I thought, who treats people like that? So disrespectful.
“He could have instead pulled a producer apart in non-public to have a phrase. It was like he needed to be seen as this big jerk who had control over all the things. I just thought, you don’t deal with people like that. I thought, what must or not it’s like working with him? Pretty horrible.”
She added: “I have read his autobiography, and he doesn’t come across very good there either. I don’t perceive the disrespect when working with people. So that is my impression of him.
“I do not think he is a very nice person. It was definitely a blessing in disguise that I did not win the investment. I could never work with someone like that.”
Lord Sugar’s regular interactions aren’t the only factor that rubbed Amy up the flawed approach. She explained how contestants can savagely “hear everything” being said in the boardroom when they’re about to get fired.
“When the candidates are waiting in the waiting room before they enter the boardroom – that is simply the same room. There is just a partition wall between the actual boardroom space and the waiting room space. So, you can hear everything that is being said.
“So when I was about to be fired, I heard all the things that Lord Sugar, Karren and Tim have been saying about me before being introduced back into the boardroom. My abdomen dropped.”
She continued: “I bear in mind listening to the three of them questioning what I had contributed to the method so far by that level. I couldn’t imagine they have been questioning my contributions as I was continually contributing and placing myself in the firing line, so to converse, all the time. I was sub workforce chief in 4 out of the six duties by that week and always delivered and then some!
“The fact that they were coming up with reasons to get rid of me at that stage shocked me. And I thought, oh my God…how can this be the end of the process for me? So all the things they say about the candidates while the candidates are waiting to go back into the boardroom, the candidates can hear.”
