There are a lot of Western and neo-Western dramas that TV followers completely love. Shows in this style have a tendency to construct loyal followings, and followers often stay dedicated to them for years. But there’s one series that hasn’t had the same degree of consideration, even though it has one thing many greater titles don’t: a good 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It is based on a common book series and has been described by viewers as “a masterpiece” and “the best neo-Western made so far”. Despite being less well-known, those who have seen it say it deserves far more recognition.

The series is Joe Pickett, an American neo-Western crime drama based on characters created by novelist C.J. Box.

It was produced by Paramount Television Studios and first launched on Spectrum Originals in 2021 before later transferring to Paramount+.

The show stars Michael Dorman, Julianna Guill, Sharon Lawrence, Paul Sparks, Mustafa Speaks and David Alan Grier.

Season one premiered on December 6, 2021, with ten episodes. A second season adopted on June 4, 2023, after the show was renewed in February 2022. However, it was cancelled in October 2023 after two seasons.

Joe Pickett tells the story of a recreation warden who strikes with his spouse Marybeth and their daughters to Saddlestring, Wyoming.

His job is to oversee the wilderness around Yellowstone National Park. But issues take a flip when he discovers the physique of poacher Ote Keeley in his yard.

The homicide leads him to uncover a conspiracy involving an influential household and his good friend, who has invested in land for a pipeline project.

Sightings of a supposedly extinct species threaten the plan, forcing Joe to shield both his household and the wildlife he’s sworn to protect.

Those who have watched the series had been blown away by performances as effectively as the storyline.
