Everybody Loves Raymond is one of the best-loved sitcoms in the US, but off-screen, the forged of the show has confronted many struggles.

The CBS show adopted Ray Barone (Ray Romano) and his household, including his spouse, Debra (Patricia Heaton), and initially aired from 1996 to 2005.

On Monday, November 24, a particular thirtieth anniversary reunion episode of the show aired on the community, which featured forged members trying back at the show and paying tribute to co-stars who have handed away, including Sawyer Sweeten, Doris Roberts, and Peter Boyle.

Following their tributes, the Daily Express seems back at the death of Sawyer and some of the challenges the forged have confronted, including battling cancer and habit.

Sawyer’s suicide

Sawyer, who performed one of Ray and Debra’s twin sons, died at 19 in April 2015.

In the reunion episode, Ray, 67, told how Sawyer was dearly missed by the forged.

Ray said, “He was this bright energy and light.”

His twin sibling, Sullivan, 30, and Madylin, 34, who also performed Ray’s youngsters in the show, said they’ve been attempting to raise awareness of suicide prevention.

“None of us really expected what happened”, Sullivan said.

“But I try to think about the good moments, and oftentimes it was on this set.” Madylin added, “I just think it is important that every conversation we are having about Sawyer, we are very fortunate in our family about suicide prevention.

In the show, Ray’s tall and loveable brother was played by Brad Garrett, 65.

In a 2015 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor said he was a “high-functioning alcoholic” and would eat “a fifth” of booze per day.

He also discussed his struggles in his tell-all book, When the Ball Drops, where he told about hitting an “emotional bottom” after studying that the show had been renewed for a second season.

He said, “On my third day in Maui, I read in Variety that Raymond had been picked up for a second season.

“Later that evening, I found myself at the Hula Bar… celebrating the news that after 20 years of cancelled shows and the brutal club circuit, I might actually be on a hit.”

“I remember thinking, ‘I drink when the news is bad and drink when the news is good.

“‘This s**t’s eventually gonna kill me.’ I hit an emotional bottom.”

This second was a major turning level in the TV star’s life, and he has been sober since 1997.

Terminal cancer 

In the show, Ray’s next-door neighbors had been performed by Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, and both grew to become firm fan favorites.

Peter stored his personal struggles personal and didn’t even open up publicly about his health points before he handed away in 2006, aged 71, from a number of myeloma and coronary heart disease.

Ray and Brad later told Larry King during an look on his show that Peter’s sickness was “kept pretty much just between the family and the cast.”

Doris, who performed his spouse Marie on the show, told the Los Angeles Times in 2009 that she was partly to blame for his tight lips about his diagnosis.

“He said, ‘Should I tell them?’ I said, ‘No. They will treat you like a dying man, and you don’t need that. You need for them to write for you.’ We had such fun together,” the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation star told the outlet.

Doris later died at the age of 90 in her sleep in April 2016, after having a stroke.

On the reunion show, Ray, there wouldn’t be a reboot of the show because three forged members, including Doris, have handed away.

He said: “We would never try to do it without them.”
