Iran closed its airspace to all worldwide flights on Wednesday unless they obtain specific permission from the nation’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The announcement comes as fears of “imminent” American strikes on the nation skyrocket.
“TEHRAN FIR CLSD TO ALL FLIGHTS EXCEPT INTERNATIONAL CIVIL ARR/DEP FLIGHTS TO/FROM TEHRAN FIR WITH PRIOR FLIGHT PERMISSION FROM IRAN CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY (CAA),” an official alert reads.
It wasn’t immediately clear how long the ban on flights could be in impact, nor what varieties of flights could be granted permission to enter the nation or fly over or through it.
