Its Kind of Rich—AL Sen. Katie Britt Calls Out

With her colleague Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) favored to win the Alabama governorship, Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) is stepping into her senior senator sneakers. Britt appeared this morning on Fox News Sunday to talk about the partial authorities shutdown which has affected TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard. Britt was fast to maintain her Democrat colleagues accountable for this, citing their failure to negotiate in good religion to resolve funding.

On Friday, Britt took to the Senate flooring and called out the Democrats’ political posturing in slow-rolling the already shortened two-week course of to resolve the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding. 

Britt said:

Look, I’m going to say it one more time: We needed more time. Democrats requested for two weeks. Our concern was that two weeks wasn’t long enough.

It took the Democrats a week to articulate what it’s they needed. They articulated it via press convention and via tweet, not by dialog. Let’s be clear: Not by dialog.

Then it took them a quantity of more days, from Wednesday to Saturday to come up with legislative textual content.

Democrat senators dug in their heels regarding their so-called ICE reforms and blocked the passage of DHS funding. They know that ICE and CBP will continue to be funded throughout this, but they know that the other issues that keep Americans secure is not going to. And that precise American staff, TSA brokers, would be the ones paying the price. 

Bingo. Exhibit A: Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), who rushed off to Munich to be a half of the convention. Once there, Slotkin spouted off to Bloomberg that “alienating allies” is unhealthy for U.S. national security, telling the outlet, “I think it takes a long time to build trust and an instant to lose it.” 

We suspect that the TSA brokers across Michigan’s three major airports have misplaced their trust. It completely screams failure of management when an elected consultant absconds to a overseas nation to badmouth and decry the dearth of management in their own. Slotkin and her fellow Democrats’ priorities are clearly not the American people, no matter how they fight to faux in any other case.

Britt’s whole Friday speech on the Senate flooring was fairly fiery and has been making the rounds because of her condemnation of Democrats’ political posturing. She said in half,

There is no manner that you possibly can’t say we’re working in good religion. We need to continue this dialog, but yet you are penalizing a TSA agent? A TSA agent is gonna go without a paycheck. Why? So that you possibly can posture politically. I’m over it! Everybody on that aspect of the aisle is aware of that ICE and CBP will continue to be funded. They are going to continue to implement the law just as they need to. Who’s gonna pay the price? It’s the TSA agent. It’s the individual working at FEMA, who already went FORTY-THREE days without a paycheck. Who’s making an attempt to determine how to make issues work. I’ve reviews of TSA brokers sleeping in their vehicles because they can not afford gasoline. Selling plasma to make their payments. Guys, come on. We’re asking to continue a dialog.
