Jake Paul setreatmentd firstround knockout that ended threetime Golden Gloves champion's career, years ahead of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. clash MMA News
Jake Paul may currently be one of the most hostilityd figures in boxing, but it’s hard to argue just how impressive he has looked in his short stint in the ring.
‘The Problem Child’ is consistently criticized by fans for fighting opponents who are way past their prime or from different sports. While he often does find himself matched up against boxers with their best years behind them, that didn’t seem to be the case when he stepped in to compete against Andre August two years ago.
August entered the ring as a threetime regional Golden Gloves champion, showing an impressive amateur background in the sport. He also managed to impress professionally, taking a 1011 record into the bout, but that wasn’t enough to get him the win over Jake Paul.
Despite facing notable names prior, Andre August was Jake Paul’s first win over a true professional boxer, though fans still had criticism for Paul following his victory.
It took the influencer just 152 seconds to get the job done. Paul landed a devastating uppercut that flatlined August, earning him one of his most impressive victories, and in turn potentially pushing August into retirement.
The now28yearold also believed that his win over the veteran was the best of his career.
“I think this is the best one,” Paul said about his win over August in December 2023. “Just because the first round, calling it the whole entire week.”
“Not getting hit one time in the fight and just setting him up for that. He kept ducking low, ducking low, and I was like, okay, I’m going to throw the uppercut, but I got to make sure he keeps on ducking low.”
“[I] assessed him, set him up for it, and finished it. [I] threw that thing hard.”
