Jason Day is set to miss the FedEx Cup playoffs for the first time in 18 years, admitting his “body is beat.”

His most latest PGA Tour victory got here at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and he has gathered just over $1.8 million in earnings this season, highlighted by a tie for sixth at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. With his season falling properly short of expectations, Day is poised to miss the PGA Tour playoffs for the first time in practically twenty years.

“I’m looking forward to taking some time off,” said Day. “My body’s been really awful, actually, this year, so just to try and grind through it has been tough.

“The last two days have been fairly onerous to attempt and get my physique prepared. I needed to play like 3M and Detroit, and sadly, I could not do something there.”

In an attempt to turn his fortunes around, Day switched coaches and equipment, but neither change produced the desired results on the course. “I just need to take some time off,” said Day. “My physique is beat.”

The Malbon star has been a prominent figure on the PGA Tour, claiming the 2015 PGA Championship. However, he will now sit out the playoffs for the first time since earning his FedExCup rookie qualification back in 2008.

The former world No. 1 required at least a two-way tie for 12th at the Wyndham Championship to reach the post-season, but following a second-round three-over performance, he won’t make the weekend cut.

“It was a good streak clearly, but I might have beloved to keep the streak going,” he added, referring to his playoff streak getting cut. “But issues occur, you already know. You’re not going to keep every thing going without end. Best to form of take some time off, get my physique sorted and attempt and come out next yr and play properly.”

Day is currently positioned at 80th in the FedEx Cup standings, with only the top 70 advancing to the PGA Tour postseason for a shot at the Tour Championship trophy. “I actually have to get my physique sorted, that’s the largest factor,” Day explained. “It’s onerous to play golf the way in which that I’m enjoying now.

“I’m playing against the best players in the world. I’m giving everyone a handicap and it’s just really difficult to do that. Can’t come in 100 percent. I know that a lot of guys aren’t 100 percent out here and they’re playing through some pain as well. Just got to get sorted and come out next year.”
