Jeremy Clarkson has admitted he would quit the UK for good if he was youthful – and would never get a job. In his latest column for The Times, the Clarkson’s Farm star took goal at Labour prime minister Keir Starmer and Chancellor Rachel Reeves after the announcement of the Autumn Budget, which raised taxes for working people and lifted the two-child benefit cap.
Clarkson said: “Social media is full of young people with pink hair chanting ‘tax the rich’ and there’s a general sense that if the government were to confiscate all of Elton John’s money, they’d be able to buy everyone on benefits a Porsche.”
He joked that any entrepreneurs trying for grants from their local council would be better “promising to never do a day’s work in your life”.
Clarkson added that if he was 24, he would keep at home “making babies for money” and “inventing” mental health points.
The star has been spending time in Costa Rica, claiming his own youngsters are tempted to quit the UK for good and keep there due to the grim outlook under the Labour authorities.
He said: “My own children started to buy into this. They considered not coming back to the UK, and who can blame them?
“In the UK it’s difficult to get on the bottom rung of the ladder and impossible to climb up it, because Reeves doesn’t believe in that sort of thing; not at her core. It revolts her.”
It comes after Clarkson said his farming profession is “so unprofitable” he’s considering of turning into a contestant, somewhat than the host, on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
He quipped: “Farming has been so unprofitable, I’m thinking of sitting in this chair when we record Millionaire tonight,” alongside a snap of him sitting in the visitor’s seat.
