Jokes Nikki Glaser should avoid as she hosts | TV Shows
McCormick then listed three types of jokes Glaser should consider steering clear of.
First, she should avoid “punching down” because “humor that targets marginalized groups, specific physical appearances, or personal tragedies is best avoided.
The expert explained: “While edgy humor has its place, ensuring the punchline doesn’t alienate or offend anyone is critical, particularly in an industry increasingly committed to inclusion and respect.”
Second, it’s best that the comedian steers clear of “industry feuds or controversial topics.”
McCormick said: “The Golden Globes are a night of celebration, not a platform for rehashing disputes or divisive issues like the Baldoni/Lively legal issues. Jokes about such matters could detract from the positive, celebratory atmosphere.”
Lastly, Glaser should “limit digs at industry reform efforts.”
The PR expert shared: “The HFPA and Golden Globes have faced scrutiny in recent years, and while self-referential humor can work in small doses, overdoing it might overshadow the progress made.

“Nikki’s comedic timing could acknowledge challenges lightly without diminishing the night’s optimism.”
Concluding, McCormick said: “Nikki’s best approach is to focus on the positive, universal aspects of the night.
“She can draw humor from the nerves of nominees, the joy of creative collaboration, or even the quirks of awards ceremonies themselves. By staying authentic and playing to her strengths, she can connect with the audience and maintain a light, celebratory mood.
“Her unique voice, when used in line with the guidelines we’ve discussed, will undoubtedly shine and make the event a success!”
After it was announced that she’d host the Golden Globes, Glaser said in a statement: “I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front-row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage).”
Glaser then joked about the opportunity: “The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God, I hope so).”
Glaser is known for her work on Comedy Central Roasts, with her latest brutal jokes coming during Netflix’s live special, The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady in May.
Her signing on to hosting duties comes after last year’s Golden Globes ceremony was met with backlash due to host Jo Koy’s controversial jokes in his monologue.
Throughout the evening, Koy made a series of brutal jokes that failed to land with a majority of the audience and the viewers at home.
Koy said during his monologue: “Oppenheimer is based on the 721-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Manhattan Project — and Barbie is about a plastic doll with big boobies.”
Viewers took to social media to express their disgust and frustration with his comments at the award show, labeling it as sexist and ironically proving the point of the film, which was to highlight women’s struggles in a patriarchal world.
During the awards show, Koy also quipped: “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift… there’s just more to go to here.”
Swift, who is known for her hit song Anti-Hero, didn’t seem amused by the joke as she stared at the comedian while sipping her champagne.
