White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt urged Americans to “trust the process” while addressing issues about the demolition of the East Wing during a press convention Thursday.
The Trump administration has been under intense fire since Monday when demolition crews had been noticed tearing down the facade of the East Wing, reneging on the president’s promise not to “interfere” with the present historic construction when asserting his ballroom project. President Donald Trump also admitted Wednesday that the project, which is being funded by non-public donors, will now value $300 million in contrast to the authentic price tag of $250 million.
The real estate mogul has embarked on a host of controversial construction and decor adjustments during his second time period, from switching out presidential portraits in the Oval Office to paving over the Rose Garden to construct a patio, which value $1.9 million.
Leavitt revealed the ballroom is “really the president’s main priority,” while rejecting criticism that the White House is just not being clear and making choices without oversight.
“We have informed all of you. We’ve been keeping you apprised of this project. We showed you renderings,” Leavitt said.
She also reiterated that the project is being privately funded when addressing issues about the price tag and donor listing.
“This is going to be a magnificent addition to the White House for many years to come and it’s not costing taxpayers anything,” she said. “The president is privately funding this addition to the White House grounds.”
Among those who have contributed funds are tech giants Apple, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and Google; the protection contractors Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin and Palantir; and the communication corporations T-Mobile and Comcast, GWN reviews. Several billionaires who also helped finance Trump’s 2024 presidential marketing campaign, including on line casino widow Miriam Adelson, Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman and he oil tycoon Harold Hamm and the cryptocurrency billionaires Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss had been also on the listing.
She also revealed that the ballroom shall be given an “official name” akin to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in West Palm Beach, Florida. She said Trump will announce it once he “firmly decides on it.”
Trump said the 90,000-square-foot ballroom shall be linked to the main White House residence through a “knockout panel.”
It will boast a 650-person seating capability, which is a large leap from the East Wing’s current 200-person seating capability.
