Koepka bounces back with invite to tournament | Golf News

Just days after being snubbed from Keegan Bradley’s US Ryder Cup group, Brooks Koepka has been confirmed to take part in the DP World Tour’s flagship tournament, the BMW PGA Championship.

The prestigious event at Wentworth is scheduled to kick off on September 11, with Koepka among the invitees. The lineup also consists of current Tour Championship victor Tommy Fleetwood.

Koepka, a five-time major champion who joined LIV Golf in June 2022, is one of a number of gamers from the Saudi-backed tour set to compete at Wentworth.

Joining him from LIV Golf are Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, Joaquin Niemann, Thomas Pieters, Adrian Meronk, and Dean Burmester, all slated to play in the BMW PGA Championship.

This marks the second consecutive DP World Tour event for Koepka, as the 35-year-old is also lined up to take part in the Amgen Irish Open at the Okay Club, beginning Thursday, September 4.

Koepka was not too long ago ignored of Bradley’s US Ryder Cup group, which is able to face Team Europe at Bethpage Black later this month.

This would be the first time since 2016 that Koepka has not been included. He has had a difficult yr, ending the LIV Golf season without a win and lacking three cuts from 4 at the majors.

There had been rumors that Bradley, who is having a strong yr, would possibly choose himself for the US Ryder Cup group, probably changing into the first captain to play in the event since Arnold Palmer.

Yet finally, he selected not to choose himself for the squad. The six computerized qualifiers for Team USA embrace World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, J. J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau.

During the Tour Championship, Bradley mirrored on the likelihood of choosing himself: “It’s a really strange thing to kind of ponder. Making the picks and thinking of picking yourself is ridiculous, it doesn’t seem like reality sometimes.”

“I grew up wanting to play Ryder Cups. I wanted to fight alongside these guys. It broke my heart not to play, it really did. But I was chosen to be the captain of this team. And my ultimate goal is to be the best captain I can be. This is how I think I can do that.

“I used to be always going to do what was best for this group, even if that meant taking part in. I’d have accomplished it. But these guys performed extremely coming down the stretch. And they made my resolution simpler.”
