Kristi Noem challenged by CBS host after demand | TV Shows

A fiery exchange unfolded between CBS News’ Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan and Kristi Noem over the ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Good in Minneapolis on January 7.

In a latest episode of the CBS program, Brennan, 45, pressed the 54-year-old Secretary of Homeland Security for more particulars about ICE agent Jonathan Ross following last week’s deadly capturing of Good. However, Noem swiftly cut off Brennan as she talked about the officer’s title, insisting that it shouldn’t be said, despite it already being public information.

Brennan began, “Let me speak to you about the officer, Jonathan Ross. He was struck, he was hospitalized-,” only to be interrupted by Noem, who has beforehand suggested Minnesota to “tone down the rhetoric.” She interjected, “Don’t say his name. I mean, for heaven’s sake, we shouldn’t have people continue to dox law enforcement” amid an “eight-thousand percent increase in death threats against them.”

As Noem mentioned the surge in death threats, Brennan countered, “His name is public.” To which Noem responded, “I know, but that doesn’t mean it should continue to be said.”

She went on to say, “His life – he got attacked with a car that was trying to take his life, and then people have attacked him and his family and they are in jeopardy.

She continued, “I do know that that in itself is his prerogative to talk about his health, but we’re hopeful that all of our law enforcement officers know that they will exit and do their job, apply the law equally to everybody and that they will do so safely and that the media and people aren’t going to assault them for standing up for what’s proper.”

Social media user Aaron Rupar posted a clip of the exchange on X, formerly Twitter, sparking widespread reaction.

One commenter wrote, “Lady you labeled a individual a home terrorist before she was even transported to the morgue.”

Another questioned, “Why are you telling us not to say his title?” A third challenged, “wait, why cannot we are saying Jonathan Ross?”

A fourth asked, “Now journalists cannot report out the title of the officer whose title is already public?”

Yet another criticized, “Noem is a pathological liar and propagandist. …and it was DHS who revealed Jonathan Ross’ title.”

However, Noem wasn’t without backing, as one supporter remarked, “Democrats continue to shamefully assault ICE at every probability they get. That’s why Democrats need them unmasked. In order to doxx them. Doxxing is a crime. Don’t do it.”

Another chimed in with their perspective, “This clip completely exhibits the conflict between public data and personal security. Just because a title is public doesn’t suggest repeating it will not put somebody at risk. Respect for law enforcement privateness issues too.”
