Littler admits boxing desire before confirming | Boxing News

Darts celebrity Luke Littler has hinted in the direction of a potential, one-off transfer to the boxing ring. The 19-year-old two-time world champion told DAZN that he could be open to competing under Misfits.

Littler was in Liverpool on Saturday evening to assist his good friend and middleweight, Luke Turner, who triumphed over Jensen Irving on the undercard of Nick Ball’s world title defeat against Brandon Figueroa.

However, the teenage sensation revealed there’s one impediment stopping him from stepping into the boxing ring.

He said: “I’d love to, but the missus does not want me to. I’d love to, a one-off definitely, on Misfits.”

When questioned about potential opponents, Littler’s response was succinct. He replied: “Anyone.”

Littler secured his second PDC World Championship title by defeating Gian van Veen in the ultimate at Alexandra Palace last month. The world No.1 then went on to snatch the Saudi Masters and the World Masters in Milton Keynes – getting into his Premier League opener against van Veen in top kind.

However, van Veen managed to precise revenge on Littler as ‘The Nuke’ suffered a 6-4 loss in Newcastle, ensuing in an early exit. Michael van Gerwen emerged victorious on the opening evening in the North East.

Littler has had a exceptional first couple of years, reaching his maiden World Championship Final and demonstrating constant strength both on and off the oche. However, former skilled Matt Edgar suggests Littler’s Achilles heel lies in the first-to-six format.

“He’s vulnerable on the ProTour – it’s the same format, and Luke struggles there,” Edgar revealed to OLBG. “We’ve seen at times at the World Matchplay him going 5-0 down.

“We’ve seen him go a number of units down to Gerwyn Price and then pull issues back. He would not have time in the Premier League. Maybe this is where we’re going to see Luke not be as dominant.”

Darts content creator Charlie Murphy chimed in: “I do not suppose it is going to continue for Luke to lose spherical one video games.

“I don’t think that will happen very often. Let’s say we get about halfway through – and it starts to get to the point where he needs to win nights to get into the top-four – I can definitely see that happening.

“I believe he can change it on when he actually wants to and when he actually needs to. It’s evening one – did it actually matter to him? Yeah, he most likely needed to win, but there’s that subconsciousness as nicely, where he is aware of it is not that important.”

Littler is now set to return to the oche against world No.2 and ex-world champion Luke Humphries on the second evening of the Premier League in Antwerp this Thursday night.
