Faith Evans has never recognized a love like this before!
The songstress has long cemented herself as Newark royalty, but now the town has made it official by naming a avenue in her honor.
WBLS studies that on Jun. 13, Evans was honored by Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and members of the Newark Municipal Council with the revealing of “Faith Evans Way.” The newly minted namesake was bestowed upon the road the singer grew up on, previously recognized as Grumman Ave. She was joined by household and followers as effectively as the households that are supported by her Ryder’s Room Foundation, an group that offers sources and care to those caring for people with autism and particular wants. The day was made even more particular as the town also paid homage to Evans’ grandmother for her dedication to the neighborhood.
“My heart is overflowing with gratitude. To have Grumman Avenue, the street I grew up on officially dedicated as ‘Faith Evans Way’ is an honor beyond words,” she wrote in a post. “One of the most significant moments of the day was seeing my grandmother, Mae offered with a decision from the City of Newark recognizing her and Bob Kennedy as longstanding residents of Newark and Grumman Avenue. Their dedication to this neighborhood, their resilience, and their love for Newark symbolize the very spirit of this neighborhood. Sharing this particular honor with them made the day even more memorable.
Newark has always been at the guts of my story, and no matter where life takes me, it should always be home. I’m humbled by this recognition and impressed to continue giving back to the town and the people who have given so a lot to me throughout my life.
Thank you, Newark, for this unimaginable honor. I’ll cherish this day perpetually.”
