Shane Lowry confessed to his father that he was satisfied he had missed the essential putt that secured Europe’s Ryder Cup victory in New York.

Lowry described the feeling of sinking the putt that ensured Europe retained the Ryder Cup as surpassing even his Open win in Ireland. The U.S., who have been lagging 11.5-4.5 at the start of the ultimate day, mounted an astonishing comeback that left the European crew fearing they’d be on the shedding end of a historic turnaround.

Lowry couldn’t contain his joy after securing victory for Europe, stating before draws for Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre clinched a 15-13 triumph: “I’ve been so fortunate to expertise wonderful issues in this recreation.

“That was the hardest couple of hours of my whole life, honestly. I just can’t believe that putt went in. I said to (caddie) Darren (Reynolds) walking down 18, I said, ‘I have a chance to do the coolest thing in my life here’.

“The Ryder Cup means all the things to me. Honestly, I’ve gained the Open in Ireland; it is wonderful, it is a dream come true.

“But the Ryder Cup for me is everything. To do that there today on the 18th green in front of everyone, it was so hard out there.”
