Mamdani Celebrates Ramadan With Incarcerated

Democrat socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated the Muslim holy month of Ramadan the way in which any regular individual would: by breaking bread with hardened criminals and suspects at the infamous Rikers Island Jail Complex.

Wait, truly, most people wouldn’t rejoice a vacation on Rikers, a lot less step foot on it if they might presumably keep away from it. Zohran, however, dances to the beat of his own drummer, so on Monday, he visited with incarcerated Muslims and broke fast with them. (So people of other faiths have been denied a seat at the desk? Asking for a good friend.)

He reminisced about “the night that will stay with me for quite some time” in a Friday social media post:

Earlier this week, I broke fast at Rikers Island with New Yorkers in custody, Department of Correction workers, Commissioner Stanley Richards, and Councilmember Yusef Salaam.

His tweet continues:

It was a night time that will keep with me for fairly some time. People sharing what little they’ve: breaking bread, offering prayer, making space for one another’s dignity even in the toughest place.

In a system too often outlined by what it takes, I used to be reminded of what it means to give—mercy, dignity, and humanity.

May we prolong that mercy as far as we are able to. Eid Mubarak to all.

Mamdani has been big on prison reform and has vowed to shut down the infamously harmful and crumbling Rikers (although he once opposed building new jails to exchange the ability, and his plans to come up with alternate options are all over the place).

We know his doubtless real fantasy: he would really like to board up Rikers and NOT exchange it with something.

One factor I always discover about these “justice reform” varieties, meanwhile, is that they never appear to put on such reveals for the victims of crimes and their households. Instead, Zohran would like to have a meal with a group that nearly actually has one or more vicious criminals in its midst.

Predictably, not everybody was impressed by the socialist’s latest in-your-face stunt. Columnist Daniella Greenbaum Davis had the same query I did: what about the victims?

visiting people in jail is admirable but just questioning if you have also visited their victims / the households of their victims? Seems like there’s a weird progressive dedication to invert victimization i cant fairly perceive.

NYC resident and award‑profitable thriller writer Daniel Friedman, meanwhile, couldn’t conceal his disdain:

Mamdani went out to serve these murderers and rapists a catered dinner with rapist City Council member Yusuf Salaam.  He loves these people and he hates Jews.

That fairly properly sums it up.
