Man dies aged 28 after tragic illness that started with vision…

An “inspirational” younger man who bravely fought mind cancer has handed away at the age of 28, leaving his household and associates devastated.

James Barker, hailing from Broadstairs, Kent, was recognized for his “joy for life”, his ardour for soccer and operating, and his global travels for a job he adored.

However, 4 years in the past, he started experiencing points with his eyesight and complications. In January 2022, medical doctors recognized him with an inoperable diffuse midline glioma, a condition with a typical life expectancy of 5 to 15 months post-diagnosis. Despite his illness, James – the second oldest of 4 siblings – ran the London Marathon later that 12 months while present process chemotherapy, persevering with to embrace life absolutely.

After medical treatment and some holistic therapy, he was informed he was in remission in 2023. Tragically, just six months later, the cancer returned. James handed away peacefully last month, leaving a void in his household home. Now, his dad and mom and siblings are dedicated to preserving his legacy of inspiring others and dwelling by his mantra: “I don’t remember the question, but love is always the answer”, reviews the Mirror.

James’s father, Ian Barker, shared: “He was a larger-than-life character in a lovely way and it’s hard to replace that in our house. Our hearts are broken at the moment. We do laugh more now than we cry, and that’s because of how James inspires us. I’m immensely privileged to be his dad. Proud probably doesn’t touch the sides.”

Mr Barker says his son has been described by many people as “effortlessly loving”. “You hear how people say they light up a room – he did that,” he said. “Throughout his life, even when he had his diagnosis, he showed no fear at all. In fact, the complete opposite. He embraced life and inspired people even more with his approach.”

James, a former scholar at Dane Court Grammar in Broadstairs, pursued sports activities technology at Loughborough University before securing a place at Hawk-Eye, which provides VAR technology for sporting occasions. The place enabled him to journey worldwide, visiting different nations and attending numerous competitions. But at 24 he started experiencing complications and imaginative and prescient issues. He was soon delivered the devastating diagnosis and informed that palliative care was the only option medical doctors may offer.

James endured a grueling six weeks of radiotherapy and daily chemotherapy. He and his household explored different approaches to complement typical drugs, including meditation and intravenous vitamin C therapy.

Remarkably, James was then declared cancer-free – but he was only to have six months of aid before a routine scan revealed that a new growth had developed. “But James continued to live fearlessly, and continued to inspire other people,” his father explained.

“We’ve heard many people say recently they would just sit with James and they would literally shoot the breeze. Because of his joy for life, and he had a real goofy way about him, they would leave that conversation feeling uplifted and felt they could take on the day.”

The loss of James has deeply affected those closest to him. Mr Barker mirrored: “I’m grateful for the life he led and how he taught us and inspired us, not just us as an immediate family, but his wider family and certainly his community of friends.

“People ask the query, why James? Why at 28 was he taken?”.

“The common rationale at the second is that those of us who knew James have been blessed to know him. Some people do not know a James in their lifetime. Most people do not obtain what James has achieved in his 28 years.”

Honoring that sentiment, Mr Barker, alongside James’s mother Heidi and his siblings Lara, Ella and William, are establishing a foundation to preserve his memory. The yet-to-be-named charity aims to offer holistic therapies for individuals battling chronic illnesses and “inspire others to heal”, fulfilling what their son and brother would have desired.

Creating such an group had been one of James’ own aspirations. A GoFundMe marketing campaign has been launched to accumulate initial funding before the muse will be formally established. A memorial service for James is scheduled at Queens Road Baptist Church, Broadstairs, on March 19 at 2pm. All those who knew and cherished him are invited to attend.
