Facebook mum or dad Meta Platforms put profit from its virtual-reality platform over security, two former researchers told a Senate panel on Tuesday.
Former Meta consumer expertise researcher Cayce Savage said the company shut down inner research exhibiting Meta knew kids have been utilizing its VR merchandise and being uncovered to inappropriately express materials.

Meta has come under fire from members of Congress in latest weeks, after GWN solely reported on an inner coverage doc that permitted the company’s chatbots to “engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual.”
“Does it surprise you that they would allow their chatbot to engage in these conversations with children?” Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Tennessee Republican, requested former Meta Reality Labs researcher Jason Sattizahn, who also testified at the listening to on Tuesday.
“No, not at all,” he said.
Meta has beforehand said the examples reported by GWN have been inconsistent with the company’s insurance policies and had been eliminated.

Savage and Sattizahn are half of a group of current and former Meta workers whose whistleblower claims have been first reported by the Washington Post on Monday.
Researchers have been told not to examine harms to kids utilizing its VR technology so that it may declare ignorance of the issue, Savage said. Savage encountered cases of kids being bullied, inappropriately assaulted and requested for nude images in the course of her work, she said.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a assertion that the claims are “based on selectively leaked internal documents that were picked specifically to craft a false narrative,” and that “there was never any blanket prohibition on conducting research with young people.”
