Hugh Jackman‘s 2017 period musical The Greatest Showman has been hailed a “masterpiece” by followers as it lands on streaming giant Netflix. the film co-stars Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Zendaya and Keala Settle and tells a (very) fictionalised model of the life of P. T. Barnum, the legendary showman and entertainer who created the Barnum & Bailey Circus, and its star sights.

Although it acquired blended reviews from critics, it garnered a whopping $459 million at the box workplace against its $84 million funds. It also launched the world to songs which rapidly turned half of the zeitgeist, including The Greatest Show, This is Me and A Million Dreams. Amongst its quite a few award nods, it acquired nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Musical or Comedy for Jackman at the seventy fifth Golden Globe Awards while it gained the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for “This Is Me”, which was also nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars. 

It was also honoured with the win for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

The show is so beloved that it is at the moment being developed as a stage musical by  Disney Theatrical Group following their enertainment giants acquisition of the movie and the Fox property in 2019.

The manufacturing, which stars I’d Do Anything alum Samantha Barks, is set to open in Bristol in spring 2026.

The film has rave reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with followers singing it is praises. “True masterpiece. Shaped a golden year of my life. Music, scenes, history- amazing. Five stars,” one gushed. “Best musical and movie ever. A true modern masterpiece. The soundtrack is just perfect. 10/10,” another enthused.

A 3rd chimed in: “…If you don’t like musicals then you won’t like this, but if you are open to that old style of filmmaking this is an absolute masterpiece. The music, the acting, the cinematography, the pacing.. just excellent….I absolutely love this movie and I’m a very hard to please and jaded viewer.”

A fourth shared: “Absolutely love! The music, the actors all brilliant! Had me crying from the beginning to the end with sad tears and happy tears.”

A fifth wrote: “Fantastic musical, I put this movie on not knowing anything about it and it’s really great would definitely recommend.”

Meanwhile a sixth revealed: “This is an all time favorite of mine. I’m a big music guy. This is a great drama in addition to being a musical. Bridged the gap nicely for me. Opened me up to an entire genre of film that I had previously ruled out. I guess a next logical step would be to go to more in person (theatre).”
