Masterpiece star-studded WWII drama lands on Amazon | UK News

In 2011, British actor Benedict Cumberbatch shocked followers with his spectacular portrayal of mathematician Alan Turing in the biographical thriller, The Imitation Game. The drama tells the story of the unsung struggle hero who labored tirelessly with his workforce to decode the Germans’ infamous Enigma code.

While this position is widely famend as one of Cumberbatch’s most acclaimed performances, the star-studded forged line-up also included Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, Charles Dance, Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Goode. The drama, which is now out there to stream on Amazon Prime, was hailed for its potential to intertwine emotional depth with historic gravitas. It was even recognised during awards season with quite a few nominations, including eight Academy Awards.

The high stakes drama also displayed the injustices Alan confronted after being prosecuted for homoinappropriateity during Fifties Britain despite his groundbreaking contribution to the struggle. 

Many viewers had been left staggered by Cumberbatch’s stirring portrayal of the socially awkward genius alongside themes of devastating isolation and wrongful conduct. 

Taking to social media, one viewer hailed The Imitation Game as “a masterpiece indeed” and added: “It’s perfect exactly the way it is … It’s really tragic but in a beautiful way.”

Another awarded it 5 stars and admitted: “Brilliant, I cried at the end. Comedy, heart-thumping scenes, goose bumping music and sad ending. This was easily one of the funniest, saddest, or just plain amazing war dramas ever created.”

A 3rd praised: “The whole cast is incredible. The cinematography is beautiful. The story is very interesting and moreover the order in which the story is told is even more engaging for the viewers.”

As a fourth exclaimed: “WHAT A MASTERPIECE!!! 10/10 recommend. The story is one of the most moving I have ever seen. Alan Turing was an extremely special, gifted human and his story was tragic. This is a celebration of him and all of his accomplishments in the face of unimaginable adversity.”

The Imitation Game also obtained a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and followers and critics alike praised the drama.

Its arrival on Amazon Prime Video has reignited curiosity in both the real-life legacy of Alan Turing, who obtained a posthumous royal pardon in 2013 and shortened the struggle, ceaselessly altering the course of historical past.
