Masterpiece thriller series has twist that leaves | UK News

Fans have flocked to reward a psychological thriller series they said stored them guessing until the very end. set at the Polaris VI worldwide Antarctic research station, The Head follows a group of scientists identified as the ‘Winterers’, who stay there to conduct research during the six-month polar evening. But when Johan Berg (Alexandre Willaume), returns to the bottom, he discovers most of the group are useless, while his spouse, Annika (Laura Bach) is lacking.

The story of what actually occurred is told through John’s present-day investigation and a series of harrowing flashbacks, which reveal how Maggie Mitchell (Katharine O’Donnelly) grew to become the only survivor. The Spanish-Japanese English-language series was directed by Jorge Dorado for HBO Asia and Hulu Japan and premiered in 2020. The second season kicked off in 2022, while the third and last series concluded in early 2025.

Fans have been raving about the series since its release in 2020, often praising it for the varied plot twists that stored them on the sting of their seats.

One IMDb reviewer shared: “Kept me guessing. This is an excellent who-dun-it series much in the old school style of ‘And Then There Were None’ like an Agatha Christie novel. unlawful killinger on the loose, questioning the motive of each of the players with a little bit of the story unfolding after each death. I loved the multiple twists in plot and it kept me guessing.

“Unlike other reviewers I loved the climate change components in the script, it added a new dimension to the story-telling, but can admire why other reviewers thought it was maybe insulting to scientists or weakly represented. One advice, this just isn’t a show to binge watch in one sitting. Take your time with it, take pleasure in its complexity and glorious appearing, there may be a lot going on in each episode that you don’t need to miss.”

Another echoed that it “stored me guessing until the end”, describing it as “one of the best thriller series” they had seen so far.

The reviewer continued: “As I began watching, I believed it was just going to be the same old Antarctic sci-fi horror rip off the The Thing. Only when I stored watching it, I realised this is a different beast all together. The manner they stored revealing secrets and techniques slowly, peeling off the true thriller; it was just completely good. It made me keep guessing & second guessing myself.”

Acknowledging that people may have given up halfway through, they said: “I do urge the people right here to keep watching until the end to discover the real thriller, this show had so many layers to it. If you are one of those people who just watches the first episode & suppose I’ve seen it all before, trust me you are so mistaken. This is one of those reveals you just have to watch it until the end to get the twist. I’m not gonna give away the twist but I’ll say this, it is only by the sixth episode you start to see the entire image.”

Another added: “There are six episodes each creating enough suspense and thrill to make you binge-watch the show. The BGM and Screenplay are the highlights of the show. It’s one of the reveals in which you keep guessing ‘what will occur next?’. Though the last episode appears rushed, general you will not be disenchanted if you like thriller thrillers like Me! Highly Recommended!”
