Netflix viewers and followers of war dramas are being urged to watch a critically acclaimed film which is leaving the streaming platform in a matter of days. The film, which is just one of many masterpiece war dramas on Netflix, boasts a star-studded forged including Lily James and Kristin Scott Thomas.
The Netflix film obtained optimistic reviews from critics when it was first launched and it earned varied BAFTA, Golden Globe and Oscars. The film begins in May 1940, when Labour demanded the resignation of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain for failing to sort out the Nazi onslaught.
While many needed Lord Halifax as his successor, he felt it was not the suitable time to step up. It was, in fact, Winston Churchill who had predicted the risk from Adolf Hitler before the war, but he didn’t have the best fame in Parliament.
Still, Chamberlain chooses him as the chief of the national authorities and the film follows Churchill as he faces many challenges in the face of war. Gary Oldman stars as Churchill in Darkest Hour, with critics deeming Oldman’s efficiency one of the best of his profession.
Darkest Hour leaves Netflix on January 15, so followers have only a couple of days left to watch the film before it disappears.
Viewers have taken to IMDb reviews to share their ideas on the biographical war drama, with krossa-81279 hailing it “outstanding”, including: “This movie is the best by far the best depiction of the great Winston Churchill. Gary Oldman is phenomenal. Shows the real struggle of the PM and how he rallied the people to help beat Nazi Germany.
“Even when pressured and he almost gave in to his friends. Extraordinary film.” Cflann1525 branded it “Gary Oldman’s position of a lifetime”, sharing: ” Not only is this an wonderful film from an leisure standpoint, it is crammed with some of absolutely the best performances by a forged I’ve seen in a long time.”

While Oldman was always slated to play Churchill, John Hurt was initially cast as Neville Chamberlain, but he dropped the role in pre-production as he was undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. He tragically died in January 2017, with Ronald Pickup assuming the role.
For his role as Churchill, Oldman spent more than 200 hours having make-up applied for his epic transformation, and reportedly smoked over 400 cigars during filming.
Oldman was praised for his performance, with critics placing him as a frontrunner to win an Oscar for Best Actor, which he did indeed go on to win.
Darkest Hour leaves Netflix on January 15.
