Ian Woosnam announced he’s leaving the Masters to the younger youngsters as the 1991 inexperienced jacket earner stepped down in 2022.

The 68-year-old made 12 straight cuts at the Masters between 1989 and 2000, but did not make the cut again until 2008, which turned out to be his last time making the cut.

Woosnam was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017 and received the European Order of Merit twice and sat at World No. 1 just before profitable the title at Augusta National.

The last time Woosnam ever performed was in 2021, where he missed the cut for the 18th time in his past 19 appearances.

Announcing the stoppage on social media, Woosnam wrote that he “thought long and hard about playing the Masters again this year and in the future” but that he would now “sit back and enjoy the memories that Augusta has given me over the years”.

He also said there was a “telling off” from his spouse in 2017, and after competing in the 2019 competitors and lacking the cut, he had “just decided to come and play a couple more times, but it doesn’t seem to get any better”.

Woosnam, like every Masters champion, has a lifetime exemption to play at Augusta National, and he first entered the event in 1988 and made 32 appearances whole.

As Woosnam called it quits, 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods announced he’s not enjoying the Masters forward of the 2026 event.

Per week before the celebrated event, Woods was arrested for a DUI after his Land Rover clipped the back of a truck, inflicting the car to flip onto the motive force’s aspect. Following his seventh back surgical procedure in October, the 15-time major winner announced he can be taking a break from the sport to recuperate.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” wrote Woods on social media.

“I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”
