An ex-inmate who spent two years with Ghislaine Maxwell claims the disgraced socialite had questionable hygiene habits and “rarely showered.”

Raven Johnson — who is utilizing a pseudonym — was incarcerated on drug expenses at Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee from November 2023 to November 2025, said Maxwell skipped chow traces, rarely showered, and even pushed for particular treatment during non secular providers.

Maxwell’s hygiene habits turned infamous among prisoners, she said. “This lady worked out every day, but rarely showered,” Johnson said.

Johnson said she never spoke of Epstein or the royal household. She described Maxwell as entitled.

“This lady, her sense of entitlement was just ridiculous,” Johnson, 47, said.

“Prison staff — they f—g hated her. She filed over 800 complaints in one year.”

The complaints, she said, were about everything from food portions to shower conditions — and actually worked.

“She may file a criticism, and issues are going to change,” Johnson said.

At mealtimes, Johnson, who works in the service industry, said Maxwell refused to wait in line like everyone else.

“There could possibly be 50 or 60 people standing in the chow corridor line. She’s walked past me a number of occasions,” Johnson said.

“People just look at her like, ‘Oh, whatever. It’s Maxwell.'”

The disgraced socialite’s religious observances became another battleground, it is claimed.

Working as the head orderly in the prison chapel, Johnson witnessed Maxwell’s attempts to control even the simplest rituals.

When Maxwell demanded to pour her own ceremonial grape juice during Jewish services, Raven said she refused.

“You’re not coming into this kitchen. You do not work right here. I do not care who you might be,” she allegedly told Maxwell. “You do not bathe. So I extremely doubt that you are going to wash your palms. You’re not coming in right here.”

The insider said Maxwell then called her attorney, who contacted someone in Washington, D.C., ultimately forcing the prison to provide Maxwell with her own personal grape juice containers.

Maxwell, however, appeared to find her niche teaching basic law classes in the prison’s education department.

Johnson, of Knoxville, Tennessee, had signed up for a law course to earn points that could reduce her sentence, and Maxwell turned out to be the instructor.

“She was fairly educated,” the insider said.

“She knew her stuff. I do not know how or what made her certified to train the category, but she knew her stuff. She was truly a pretty good instructor.”

The class lasted about 12 weeks, one hour per week, during which Maxwell “suggested inmates on the right approach to file motions,” Johnson said, noting that she gave “step-by-step instructions.”

Johnson said that because Maxwell is a convicted sex offender, she was considered “trash” and among “the lowest of the low” by fellow inmates.

“People don’t look at you as if you’re actually even human,” she said. “You’re less than. If you have crimes against children, you’re shit.

“It doesn’t matter how much money you have or who you are in the real world; people aren’t going to respect you.”

For this motive, the insider said, Maxwell’s circle of associates was small.

Her closest companion was “a murderer, this lady that murdered her whole family,” while another buddy “had really bad child sex charges and made videos of her daughter,” Johnson said.

Johnson described a particular incident in which Maxwell turned upset after seeing a TV show about her life.

According to Johnson, there was a weekend when the Starz community aired a three-part miniseries called “Who is Ghislaine Maxwell?”

“She was pissed because we had it on every single TV,” Johnson said.

“And when she came in from the rec yard after working out and seeing that shit on TV, she just started going bananas.”

Johnson said she called fellow inmates “blooming idiots,” asking, “Can you find something better to do?”

The insider also said outside attention on Maxwell disrupted the entire prison.

On otherwise “beautiful, bright, sunny” days, she recalled helicopters flying low over the compound making an attempt to snap pictures of Maxwell, forcing officers to halt regular operations.

“We would all have to go on lockdown, and it’d all be because people were trying to get pictures of Maxwell,” Johnson said.

She also described a separate spectacle the day after Maxwell testified, when a vivid yellow airplane allegedly circled the power pulling a banner that criticized her.

“The helicopter pulled this long-ass banner and literally flew circles around the prison for a couple hours. It’s federal property, so there’s no fly zone. We got locked down that day because of that.

“Ghislaine did not acknowledge it. She did not say something.”

She added: “I imply, I’m sure she had to have some stage of embarrassment even with the people she believed had been beneath her.”

The breaking point came when Maxwell returned from testifying and found her cell completely ransacked.

“A bunch of inmates ran through her shit and took every little thing she owned, all of her garments, all of her footwear, all of her commissary,” Johnson said. Despite Maxwell’s later claims about prison being dangerous, the insider dismissed her fears.

“Prison is just not as harmful as she made it out to be,” she said, calling Maxwell’s statements about inmates being beaten for $25 worth of commissary “an absolute lie.”

In August 2025, Maxwell was transferred from FCI Tallahassee to a minimum-security federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas.

She was jailed for 20 years in 2022 for intercourse trafficking.
