Mayim Bialik says Disney canceled Blossom reboot…
“Blossom” is staying in the ’90s.
Mayim Bialik broke the news that the deliberate reboot of her NBC sitcom was formally killed by Disney.
“It was not for lack of trying,” the actress, 49, wrote in a Substack post shared Monday.

Bialik, who performed Blossom Ruby Russo on the show that aired from 1991 to 1995, explained that she and “Blossom” creator Don Reo started discussing rebooting the collection after her time on “The Big Bang Theory” ended in 2019.
Reo wrote a “beautiful” script, Bialik recalled, but plans for the revival have been put on maintain when Bialik obtained busy starring in the Fox sitcom “Call Me Kat” and co-hosting “Jeopardy!”

“When both of those ended, Don and I could not let the possibility of revisiting ‘Blossom’ go,” Bialik wrote, revealing the pair again pitched the revival to Disney, who “seemed to love it” and “understood what we wanted to do.”
“We felt certain this was moving forward,” Bialik said.
But after some inner modifications at Disney, Bialik and Reo have been “told the project was no longer able to be produced” by a new crew.

“We asked for the rights so that we could let the market decide if audiences might want to see these characters all these years later. We were told Disney reserves the rights in case they ever want to do a reboot of Blossom,” she explained. “The reboot we all wanted to do was now, with Don’s script.”
“We will likely never know … why they would not let us bring these beautiful stories to people who love 90s nostalgia and who have a special place in their hearts for Blossom,” Bialik said.

Bialik famous that “while it is possible no one wants a Blossom reboot,” she feels “pretty certain Disney got this one wrong.”
“The sun is gonna surely shine. Maybe not the way Don and I intended, but this door closed,” she confirmed. “While we didn’t want it to, we are powerless over every aspect of it except what we know to be true: we loved this possibility with all that we have and we are so so sorry we couldn’t get it to happen.”

The Emmy nominee also admitted that Blossom Russo is the “role I want to play more than any other,” and since the reboot plans have been crushed, “my desire to continue to pursue on-camera roles has waned.”
The Post has reached out to Disney for remark.
Bialik shared back in 2023 that a “Blossom” reboot was occurring.

“I’m happy to tell you that, yes, it’s true,” she told Vanity Fair. “All of the cast and the original creator and producers are on board, and we believe a reboot can and should exist once the strike ends.”
Bialik also said at the time that she didn’t need the show to be revived as a sitcom.

“We want to bring back these interesting, deep characters — a child of divorce, a recovering drug addict, an alcoholic — to see them in a whole new way,” the star explained.
“Blossom” adopted an Italian-American teenager (performed by Bialik) dwelling in a male-dominated family after her mother leaves to pursue her profession.
Joey Lawrence, Michael Stoyanov, Ted Wass and Jenna von Oÿ also starred.
