David Puig has clinched his first major DP World Tour victory, a feat that did not escape the discover of LIV Golf legend Phil Mickelson.

Puig, now a full member of the DP World Tour for 2026, secured his inaugural win at the BMW Australian PGA Championship. Mickelson took to social media to remark on the 23-year-old’s triumph.

With rounds of 68, 67, 65, and 66, Puig gained the BMW Australian PGA Championship by a mere two photographs in his debut as a full DP World Tour member. He also grew to become the first Spaniard since Seve Ballesteros to declare the title and earn a two-year exemption.

Following the victory, Mickelson in contrast Puig to his legendary compatriot. He posted: “190 ball speed, short game on Seve’s level, putts as well as anyone in the game, and plays fearless every day.

“Same as Josele [Ballester], and they’re together every day, pushing each other to get better. The wins are just going to keep including up for a very long time.”

Speaking to Flushing It, Puig expressed his excitement about his upcoming events in Australia and future LIV Golf tournaments. “I’m trying ahead to it. You know, I joined the DP World Tour, which is thrilling as a Spanish, European participant,” he said.

“And yeah, I’ve only performed Australia in Adelaide for the LIV event, so I’m trying ahead to them. Especially Royal Melbourne, but variety of both, you already know?”.

“Having another probability to (qualify for) the Masters and The Open, and variety of enjoying my first event as a member there, it is fairly thrilling. So I’m trying ahead to it.

“I think Brisbane is kind of like driver everywhere. That’s what I heard. So… And obviously, Royal Melbourne is more like firm and fast. And if it’s firm, it’s usually pretty good for me, I would say. I usually have the height and I’m good with my spin numbers and all that. So, I think it should be good. Yeah, we’ll see.”

Currently, all DP World Tour members who want to take part in conflicting occasions will face fines and doubtlessly suspensions.

“Yeah, I mean, as of right now, obviously I thought about every scenario and I joined the tour because I’m willing to pay the fines, you know? Again, for me playing on the European Tour, it’s the tour I followed growing up,” he added.

“So, it’s something that I’m really looking forward to. And, yeah, I mean, we’ll see how it goes. I don’t really know what to expect or whatnot. And so we’ll kind of see how it goes.”
