LIV Golf star Phil Mickelson advised that Team USA look for a 2027 Ryder Cup captain outside of the game. Team USA misplaced a second consecutive Ryder Cup to Europe, this time at Bethpage, New York, last weekend, being defeated 15-13.

Keegan Bradley was the captain for 2025, but names are already being floated about for 2027, when the Ryder Cup heads to Ireland. Tiger Woods and Justin Leonard have been touted in the golf world, but six-time major winner Mickelson has put ahead a radical concept: Find a Ryder Cup captain outside of golf.

Mickelson advised legendary soccer coach Lou Holtz or former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski. The LIV Golf star believes those two coaches’ capability to handle groups may very well be the key to success, given that golf is basically an particular person sport.

Mickelson provided regular commentary across the Ryder Cup weekend. At one point, it looked like Europe would win the Ryder Cup in a tournament dubbed the “Bethpage Beatdown.” However, the U.S. managed to pull back a respectable score despite the defeat.

“Team USA gave one of the most unbelievable and inspiring Sunday performances,” Mickelson said. “Amy and I would like to ship our best to Captain Keegan and the remaining of the crew who performed every shot with so a lot coronary heart and represented the United States so properly. Go USA.”
