Mike Johnson Teases a Long-Overdue Fight Over | Political News

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) made a Monday radio look on The Moon Griffon Show and teased how the House of Representatives deliberate to tackle the $39 trillion in federal debt.

Johnson told Griffon:

“And then, we’re going to lead up to what we have to do to address the largest spending item. The reason we’re in trouble is because over 74 percent of federal spending is on autopilot. Mandatory spending. That’s your entitlement programs like, Medicare, Medicaid, and then things like Social Security. They have to be adjusted and fixed. We have a plan to do that, uh, next year, and it’s critical because we’re at 40 trillion, plus.”

LISTEN:

The weeping, wailing, and gnashing of enamel from the Democrats that has transpired with DOGE, then with the One Big Beautiful Law (OBBL), and now the Task Force on Fraud is only going to increase when Johnson makes this transfer. How does the Speaker plan to get these adjustments through committee, let alone the House flooring?

Of course, as soon as this interview hit the waves and that soundbite was distributed, Democrat National Committee (DNC) Chairman Ken Martin immediately grabbed it to post on X, raising the alarm that “cuts” to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid had been imminent. Martin also received in the requisite dunk on the OBBL’s kicking unlawful aliens off Medicaid, which he framed as the “largest healthcare cut in history.”

Right…

With 5 months to the midterms and prospects for Democrats more and more trying grim, Martin is setting a narrative that he hopes adjustments the trajectory. Both events know that affordability, or the shortage thereof, is still top of thoughts for many Americans. Is Johnson giving the Democrats the right rhetorical shiv to plunge in and twist?

Johnson immediately pushed back, accusing Democrats of fearmongering (they’re) and laid out the progress Congress has made to claw back monies from authorities fraud, waste, and abuse that was uncovered through DOGE and the Fraud Task Force.

Once again, Democrats and the media are fearmongering.

Everyone is aware of past a shadow of a doubt that there’s rampant waste, fraud, and abuse throughout authorities applications. Just today, the @GOPoversight launched a report that Tim Walz’s failures in Minnesota price the taxpayer probably $9 billion in Medicaid-related funds and roughly $300 million in federal youngster nutrition funds.

During this Congress, the House has already handed substantive laws to clean up this waste, fraud, and abuse, and Democrats have voted against practically every piece of laws we’ve handed. We will continue to do so in this Congress and in future Congresses so that these important applications could be preserved for the American residents that need them.

Democrats love to say that “everybody is against fraud,” and they’re proper — this is a 90/10 issue. Republicans are those with the braveness to truly do something about it.

A advice to the Speaker: Move past the language of “adjust and fix” and start the marketing campaign on precisely how you plan to implement those fixes and changes, then tie that into how this will make life more reasonably priced for everybody. Otherwise, the Democrats will continue to leverage this language to their benefit.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will decide the destiny of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must preserve control of both chambers of Congress.
