Despite the histrionics efforts of Texas Democrats, they’ve given up the ghost and (largely) returned to the state Capitol, where they’re offering the requisite quorum…and dealing with penalties for their dereliction of obligation. (No, that’s not on the Capitol Hill, but the ramifications of Texas redistricting are probably to play a position in how issues look come the a hundred and twentieth Congress.)

And it is sounding more and more like Missouri (and other purple states) will take a web page from the Texas playbook and dabble in their own redrawing of maps. 2026 is a long approach off — and we have still obtained two-thirds of the 119th Congress to wander through, but sustaining the GOP majorities in both homes goes to be vital. 

White House What’s Up

President Donald Trump had fairly the Monday, internet hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and key European leaders at the White House in an effort to advance Russian-Ukrainian peace talks. There are still a lot of unknowns on that entrance, but I feel most would agree Trump deserves some credit for his efforts to deliver about peace. 

On Tuesday, he is set to signal “a Congressional Bill” — not totally clear which one. Also, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will maintain a press briefing at 1:00 PM Eastern.

It’s not precisely a court case or resolution, but it seems to be like Missouri goes to lose its latest rockstar attorney common to a new gig at the FBI. Like his predecessors, now-Senator Josh Hawley (R) and now-Senator Eric Schmitt (R), Andrew Bailey is transferring on to larger and better issues. Now, we wait to see who will develop into the next Missouri AG…

COMING ATTRACTIONS

According to President Trump’s Truth Social post about the matter, next up on the Russia-Ukraine entrance will likely be a face-to-face assembly between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, adopted by a trilateral assembly in which Trump himself will take part.

MORNING MUSING

Unfortunately, I’ve to keep the musing temporary this AM, as I’m on my approach out the door for trip. But I could not depart without sharing this thought: I do not know what’s in the end going to come of the Russia-Ukraine state of affairs — whether or not a peace will likely be brokered (and adhered to). Certainly, there appear to have been important steps taken in that direction lately. 

What I do know is that, as I watched President Trump welcome President Zelensky back to the White House, and then watched him have interaction with each of the European leaders current, it sunk into me that, for all of the knocks on him — and all that has been thrown at him — he is really grown into the position. If you’d have told me 10 years in the past, the phrase “statesman” would legitimately befit the person, I would not have believed you — and I’d have been unsuitable. 

And would not it’s becoming irony if the person who was once impeached over Ukraine…finally was ready to help deliver peace to it?
