A music icon tragically died penniless at the age of 32 after being pushed out of the legendary group she helped type.

At the Brewster Projects, Florence Ballard, who died in 1976 and grew up in the largely segregated neighborhoods of Detroit, met two younger girls who would develop into The Supremes alongside her: Mary Wilson and Diane (not yet Diana) Ross.

While still in high college, the musical trio fashioned the Primettes and started singing background vocals for Marvin Gaye and other Motown stars. However, the women struggled to discover a hit of their own, even after Motown’s Berry Gordy signed them as The Supremes in 1961.

In their early days, The Supremes have been recognized around Motown for their fixed flops. However, they have been decided, and their early failure made them resilient.

Everything modified for the group when Gordy put Ross entrance and heart. Paired with the legendary songwriting/producing group Holland-Dozier-Holland, The Supremes finally acquired their first hit, Where Did Our Love Go?, which shot up to No. 1 and stayed there for 11 weeks.

Hits like Baby Love, Come See About Me, and You Keep Me Hangin’ On shortly adopted. However, the choice to put Ross in the highlight created stress within the group.

Ballard sang on 10 No. 1 singles and helped develop the group’s harmonies and stage performances. From the start, Ballard and Ross battled to be the group’s lead singer.

Otis Williams of The Temptations once said that (*32*) voice “had a real depth of feeling and a strong churchy sound. When [she] opened her mouth to sing, you sat up in your chair.” Meanwhile, Ross had a small, high-pitched voice.

However, Gordy believed Ross would have a better appeal to white audiences than Ballard. Tensions mounted between the 2 girls.

Ballard struggled with the group’s hectic schedule and the stress of being sidelined. Eventually, she started consuming, and her tensions with Ross worsened.

After a Supremes efficiency in Las Vegas, Gordy changed Ballard with Cindy Birdsong, whom he’d been quietly gearing up for one of his teams. The group subsequently turned recognized as Diana Ross and the Supremes.

Ballard shortly tried to set up a solo profession, signing with ABC Records. She launched two singles, but neither delivered the singer the comeback she needed.

The music icon then married in 1968 and had three daughters. While she tried to steadiness her profession with raising her household, gigs began petering out, and her funds started to endure.

In 1975, she carried out live for the first time in years at a benefit live performance in Detroit, and the group beloved her. However, it failed to reignite her profession.

For the remaining of her life, Ballard was consumed by legal battles with Motown and numerous attorneys she employed to signify her.

Ultimately, Ballard died in 1976 in Detroit at the younger age of 32. Her official trigger of death was coronary artery thrombosis. Ballard handed away with virtually nothing financially.

Both Wilson and Ross attended her funeral, which attracted some 5,000 followers, according to AARP.

However, when Ross arrived at the New Bethel Baptist Church, followers booed her. Inside, seated with (*32*) household, Ross grabbed her former Supreme’s youngest daughter, Lisa, and positioned the kid on her lap.

Photographers noticed the second, and the image of Ross and Lisa was revealed and unfold around the world. It was the only image followers ever noticed of (*32*) funeral.
