Nancy Guthrie case sheriffs contradictions | TV Shows

The sheriff overseeing Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has launched a assertion relating to her suspected abductor after dealing with weeks of public criticism.

In an exclusive interview with The Mirror US, Cummings said, “I am baffled by the sheriff’s remarks–particularly why he would make these statements now and not weeks ago.

“Sheriff Nanos told the public he believes he is aware of why somebody kidnapped Nancy Guthrie and then refused to say what that motive is. Then he told the public the suspect may strike again and then refused to describe the suspect. And then told the public this was a focused crime and then told the public not to really feel secure. Those three statements contradict each other.”

The expert emphasized: “A focused crime, by definition, doesn’t pose a risk to the population at large. A sheriff who believes the suspect will strike again has an obligation to warn the public with specificity, not run interference with the media.”

Cummings argued that Nanos’ statement “reads like a man responding to six weeks of criticism, not a man operating an investigation.”

He added: “His division has produced zero arrests in the highest-profile kidnapping case in Arizona in a decade.

“The NBC interview gave him a platform to say ‘we know things’ without proving he knows anything. That is public relations and politics – not crime solving.”

Cummings also emphasised the importance of the timing of Nanos’ assertion, which adopted weeks of mounting criticism. “Megyn Kelly spent this week dismantling the investigation on her platform,” he famous.

The skilled additional acknowledged: “Retired law enforcement officers spent this week questioning the competence of the Pima County Sheriff’s Office on national broadcasts. Nanos responded within 48 hours of that criticism, not with an arrest, but with an interview… not an arrest!”

He also characterised Nanos’ assertion as a “last-ditch PR move more than anything.”

Law enforcement sources moreover informed Cummings that the FBI can be “instructing the sheriff not to make any specific remarks.”

Nanos offered an update on the case during an interview with NBC Nightly News’ Liz Kreutz. When questioned whether or not the suspect may “strike again,” he replied, “Absolutely.”

Nanos elaborated, “We believe we know why he did this, and we believe that it was targeted, but we’re not 100 percent sure of that, so it’d be silly to tell people, ‘Yeah, don’t worry about it. You’re not his target.'” He cautioned, “Don’t think for a moment because it happened to the Guthrie family you’re safe. Keep your wits about you.”

However, he did not disclose the potential motive they’ve uncovered for the kidnapping.

This follows a chilling eight-word description of the suspected kidnapper issued by Nancy Guthrie’s neighbor.
