Netflix drama canceled after one season – TV – | TV Shows

Netflix has canceled a beloved collection after just one season, leaving its creator devastated.

The streaming platform has formally confirmed that Lena Dunham‘s romantic comedy collection Too Much won’t be returning for a second season. The show premiered on July 10, that includes Meg Stalter and Will Sharpe in the main roles.

Despite Too Much incomes overwhelmingly optimistic essential acclaim and boasting a 79% approval ranking on Rotten Tomatoes, the collection failed to seize a worldwide viewership, only making it onto Netflix’s Global Top 10 for English-language programming during its inaugural full week.

The show landed at No. 10 with 1.9 million viewers.

The supporting ensemble also featured Dunham, Rhea Perlman, Andrew Rannells, Rita Wilson, Emily Ratajkowski, Naomi Watts, and Richard E. Grant, stories the Mirror US.

Lena developed the collection alongside her partner, British musician Luis Ferber.

During a FYC panel last week, she revealed that they’d initially supposed to “make Too Much as a limited series.”

She explained, “It was meant to feel like a classic transatlantic love story but with time to really dig into the complexities that a film doesn’t have the space for.”

Netflix’s official description of Too Much states, “Jessica (Stalter) is a New York workaholic in her mid-thirties, reeling from a broken relationship that she thought would last forever and slowly isolating everyone she knows. When every block in New York tells a story of its own bad behaviour, the only solution is to take a job in London, where she plans to live a life of solitude like a Brontë sister.

“But when she meets Felix (Sharpe) – a strolling collection of crimson flags – she finds that their uncommon connection is unattainable to ignore, even as it creates more issues than it solves. Now they’ve to ask themselves: do Americans and Brits truly communicate the same language?”.

Discussing the series during the panel, Lena revealed, “Of course, I fell absolutely in love with Meg and Will’s dynamic and began imagining what the remaining of their characters’ lives together may seem like – Felix and Jess have a child! Felix and Jess are on the first ship to populate Mars!”.

She went on, “But as Luis and I sat with what we made, we realized we had told the story. It ends with a marriage ceremony. There’s even a little Easter egg, which is that within the ultimate scene you may hear me yell ‘cut!’ We had performed what we needed to do, and half of the job is figuring out when to park it.”

Although a second season won’t be happening, Lena hasn’t completely dismissed the possibility of revisiting the story through different means. She explained, “Who is aware of – possibly there will probably be a time down the road when it feels proper to test in on them again. But proper now I’m pulling a Mary Poppins and heading on to the next (imaginary) household that wants me.”
