Netflix fans furious over Pride and Prejudice | TV Shows
Netflix viewers have been left confused after the streaming giant released a first look at the upcoming Pride and Prejudice series.
The new show is being created by Dolly Alderton and stars Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennett and Jack Lowden as Mr Darcy. Oliva Colman, Jamie Demetriou, Fiona Shaw and Rufus Sewell are also among the cast.
Netflix released new images from the upcoming six-episode program, showing the Bennett sisters in period-typical clothing alongside their mother. The pictures also gave a look at Louis Partridge as the villainous Mr Wickham.
In Jane Austen’s novel, Wickham was adopted by Darcy’s family, but once Darcy’s father died Wickham revealed himself to be a scammer who preys on young girls – including the young Lydia Bennett.
Both Darcy and Wickham are in their 20s in the novel. As for the actors, Jack Lowden is 35 while Wickham’s Louis Partridge is 22 and Bennett’s Rhea Norwood is 24.
“The point in the end was Mr Wickham was a predator. He’s supposed to be played by a grown man to emphasis him running off with her underage sister,” a third annoyed fan added.
Someone else posted, “I’m not happy with the Wickham casting. this is no shade to louis at all but it should be someone older than 25.”
Fans will just have to wait and see how the casting will play out on screen as there is currently no release date for Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice series.
