A New York appeals court handed President Donald Trump a large win on Thursday after throwing out the president’s large civil fraud penalty.

The determination comes seven months after the president returned to the Oval Office. The five-panel judges in New York’s mid-level Appellate Division said the verdict, which might have value him $515 million, was “excessive.”

In February 2024, it was reported that, after being discovered guilty of padding his financial statements, Judge Arthur Engoron ordered him to pay $355 million in penalties.
