Newsom Finally Releases Statement–Through a | Political News

Democrat CA Governor Gavin Newsom finally made remarks, through his spokesperson, on the violence outdoors a Turning Point USA event at the University of California, Berkeley, this week that resulted in a number of arrests.

In a assertion on Wednesday, Newsom’s spokesperson told Fox News Digital that “Violence is not a legitimate exercise of First Amendment rights. While people have the right to protest, it must be done peacefully.”

As RedState’s Jennifer Oliver O’Connell reported, the TPUSA event was the last of the rebranded “This is Turning Point” tour, which was beforehand scheduled before TPUSA co-founder Charlie Kirk was killed by an murderer on September 10, while talking to 1000’s of school children on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

The event included Dr. Frank Turek and comic Rob Schneider.

O’Connell wrote:

Despite the threats, intimidation, and a pre-programmed protest, the event was a sold-out success. Hours forward of the scheduled start time, Antifa introduced their best and brightest to trigger chaos, confusion, and discourage people from attending the event.

Attendees have been harassed by members of Antifa, who “brought flares, smoke bombs, broken glass and other dangerous paraphernalia to throw at the attendees,” O’Connell added.

The post above reads:

This occurred to fellow attendees, too. It made no sense, and no one may give a straight reply.

Outside, protesters screamed, vandalized, threw paint, and a number of people have been arrested. Glass bottles/cups have been launched at attendees. This was not “peaceful protest.” It was intimidation. I’ve never seen something prefer it before.

Through all of it, @TPUSA president, @johnpaulleon27, stayed calm and skilled. He pushed through bureaucratic resistance and delivered a strong speech, even when the college administration made it as troublesome as doable until minutes before.

Tonight proved one thing simple: You haven’t got to agree with us. You haven’t got to like what we are saying. But shutting down speech, blocking access, attacking attendees, and utilizing this sort of “power” to silence college students will not be democracy. It’s censorship with a smile.

We confirmed up. We stood firm. We exercised the First Amendment in a place that claims to have a good time free expression. The irony writes itself.

As @RobSchneider best put it, “Shame on you, @UCBerkeley.”

RedState later reported that Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon had lowered the increase against Berkeley relating to its handling of the violence.

“The @CivilRights Division, under @AGPamBondi’s leadership, has asked UC Berkeley Police to preserve all records regarding their response to the mob violence at UC Berkeley’s TPUSA event,” the post on X read. “Every American has the right to speak at and attend events without fear.”

Newsom goes to have to do more than present this spokesperson assertion when he will get back from his journey to Brazil. We will convey it to you when he does.
