NL East preview 2026: How far can Mets ride…
The Post’s Mark W. Sanchez previews the NL East:
1. New York Mets
O/U Wins: 90.5
Key Player: Francisco Lindor. On the sphere, there are questions regarding what the shortstop will appear like coming off hamate surgical procedure, a process that notoriously saps energy from hitters for months. Off the sphere, there are questions about Mets management after last yr’s workforce underperformed with a clubhouse that didn’t seem to mesh, prompting wholesale modifications. The Mets will need Lindor to help keep the workforce in the race and keep it together.
Player who’ll need to step up: Kodai Senga or Sean Manaea, take your choose. With Freddy Peralta and Nolan McLean, the Mets have real upside at the entrance of the rotation. With Clay Holmes and David Peterson, there may be at least competence, and most likely more, at the back. But what can be anticipated from Senga and Manaea? Senga owns a sterling 3.00 ERA in his three MLB seasons, but accidents and ensuing mechanical points have sidetracked promising years. In 2024, Manaea was the workforce ace in the second half and October, then accidents and ineffectiveness outlined last season. Do they belong at the entrance or back of the rotation?
