One of the most fascinating mysteries in early 2000s popular culture has formally been solved, and the reply is less scandalous than it’s possible you’ll assume.
Michelle Williams pulled up to Keke Palmer’s Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast this week and addressed the viral 2001 Destiny’s Child interview that has had followers satisfied for a quarter of a century that Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle have been faaaar from sober during it.
If you’ve never seen the clip in query, the X post from @Yubbie007 will catch you proper up. The three ladies are giggly, a little crazy, and giving solutions that really feel just barely disconnected from the questions being requested. In one of the most iconic moments in the whole clip, Beyoncé publicizes with full sincerity that if she might be any animal, she could be a whale.
“I know what I’d be, I’d be a whale. Iove whales,” said Beyoncé while eating.
“I think I would be a bird because they can fly,” added Kelly.
“I would like to be a black panther,” said Michelle amid a spherical of ‘oohs and ‘aahs’ before imitating the motion of the felines.
Fans have been utilizing this clip as evidence for 20 years to surmise that the trio was high during the sitdown.

Unfortunately for followers caught on the speculation, Michelle said their actions have been a lot more harmless than they appeared.
“There is one interview we did where people think we’re high,” she told Keke. “I promise y’all Matthew and Tina Knowles was not playing that. We were not under the influence of any substance!”
And just in case anybody thought she is perhaps overlaying for a youthful indiscretion with a twenty-five-year cushion, she went additional.
“We were really tired,” she continued. “There were no edibles. It was literally jet lag. We were delusional. Media training is great, but when you’re tired, you can’t hide it.”
As PEOPLE reported, the reason tracks totally when you take into account what Destiny’s Child’s schedule truly appeared like in 2001. These have been three younger ladies operating on a promotional treadmill that didn’t stop for weekends, time zones, or basic human relaxation. Michelle explained the group was operating on fumes when they sat down for the interview, leaving them drained, crazy and a little delirious but undoubtedly not under the affect of something other than a brutal worldwide schedule.

Michelle also made the purpose that would resonate with anybody who has ever tried to carry out at full capability while operating on empty.
“Media training is great,” she said. But it could possibly only take you so far, particularly when you’re exhausted and sitting in a room answering questions that it’s possible you’ll not significantly love.”
And allow us to be trustworthy: if Mathew and Tina Knowles have been managing and supporting this group at the peak of their profession, the very suggestion that they’d have allowed three younger ladies to show up to a press interview in any state other than skilled is genuinely tough to imagine.
