Sir Paul McCartney’s followers showered him with heartfelt messages after he shared some heartbreaking news. The Beatles legend took to Instagram to honor his late good friend and fellow musician, Bob Weir.

Posting a throwback picture of the 2 sharing a snort on stage, Paul penned a touching tribute reflecting on their shared reminiscences. The 83-12 months-previous shared: “Bob Weir was a great musician who inspired many people of many generations. I last saw Bob when we went to the Sphere in Las Vegas to watch Dead and Co. He was very welcoming, and during the interval in the show, he invited us into his trailer, and it was a special moment to meet his family and friends. Bob showed me the recording set up that he had in the back of the bus so even though he was on tour he could make and record music; I offered to play the bass on one of the tracks he played me but unfortunately that never came to pass.”

Paul added: “His humour, friendship and musicianship inspired me and will inspire many people into the future. Our family’s thoughts go out to Bob’s family at this time of loss, and I know they will remain as strong as he would wish them to be. God bless you Bob. See you down the road. Love Paul.”

The singer also included some images taken by Linda McCartney, which followers appreciated. One fan commented: “All this overlapping of musical genres and generations of humans warms my heart. Linda’s photos are some of my faves.”

Another fan chimed in: “Linda’s photos of him are some of my favorites. And that set up in the back of his bus sure was something, wasn’t it? One of the coolest things I’d ever seen. Love you Sir Paul, thanks for this.”

The news of Bob’s passing was shared last week. A press release on the singer and guitarist’s Instagram web page revealed that Weir had “succumbed to underlying lung issues” after a courageous combat with cancer. He was 78.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Bobby Weir,” the assertion read. “He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously beating cancer as only Bobby could. Unfortunately, he succumbed to underlying lung issues.”

The assertion went on: “His loving family, Natascha, Monet, and Chloe, request privacy during this difficult time and offer their gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and remembrance.

“May we honor him not only in sorrow, but in how bravely we continue with open hearts, regular steps, and the music main us home.”
